How Arati Allegedly Intervened, Saved Nyaribo From Being Axed by Senate in the Last Minutes

Fresh details have emerged linking Kisii county governor and ODM deputy party leader Simba Arati to the Senate's rejection.

A motion of an  impeachment levelled against Nyamira county governor Amos Nyaribo.

Allegedly, governor Simba Arati intervened in the last minutes and pleaded with ODM Senators to vote in support of a preliminary objection .

To the impeachment motion that had been raised by Nyaribo through his lead counsel, Elias Mutuma.

The deal was allegedly struck during an impromptu meeting between Nyaribo and Arati at his Lavington residence, Nairobi.

The meeting happened a day to the impeachment hearing.

South Mugirago Member of Parliament Silvanus Osoro who is also a key cog in the Kenya Kwanza alliance was present in the meeting.

It is said he also had something to do with Nyaribo's survival in the Senate.

Through his lead counsel Elias Mutuma, Nyaribo faulted the impeachment process arguing that the requisite 2/3 rule had not been achieved by the MCAs.

23 Members of the Nyamira County Assembly voted to oust Nyaribo. Nyaribo argued that the MCAs required 24/35 votes to achieve the 2/3 rule.

On their part, the MCAs argued that the Assembly was not full at the time of voting. Two seats were vacant.

They therefore were of the opinion that 23/33 votes were enough.

The senators overwhelmingly voted in support of Nyaribo's argument with 38 votes against 4.

This move subsequently saved Nyaribo from being impeached.

Speaking to the media, Nyaribo denied having been assisted by any outside forces to escape the axe.
