Babu Owino Leads Legal Team in Milimani Court for Nuru Okanga

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino joined a team of legal advocates at Milimani Law Courts today to represent Nuru Okanga.

Who is facing criminal charges described by his legal team as “frivolous” and a violation of his citizen rights.

The court appearance, which drew attention from civil rights observers, saw a group of 12 advocates present.

Including Abner Mango, Noordean Khagai, Shadrack Wambui, Kennedy Echesa, Wanjira Maina, Connex Mwaro, Stephen Oyugi, Philip Maiyo, Pius Oyoo, Japheth Kang’ethe, and Jacob Oruko Were.

Speaking after the hearing, MP Owino said the charges against Okanga were part of a broader narrative.

Where ordinary citizens are subjected to overreaching systems that seek to silence them through suspicion, misinformation, or political expediency.

He emphasized that the accused’s rights must be respected under Kenyan law and that legal processes should not be used to intimidate or marginalize individuals.

"Today, we were at Milimani Court representing Nuru Okanga.

He has been subjected to charges that are not only frivolous but are a clear violation of his rights as a citizen.

These charges are part of a broader narrative, a narrative where the oppressed, the marginalized.

The everyday individual, finds themselves facing an overreaching government or a system that seeks to silence them.

To undermine their very existence, based on nothing more than suspicion, misinformation, or political expediency," he posted on X.
