“Truphena Only Hugs Trees, Members Should Not Lose Focus” Speaker Tells MPs During Her Introduction in Parliament

Members of Parliament were briefly left in laughter after the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang'ula, made a light-hearted remark while introducing nominated MP Truphena Muthoni in the House.

The moment happened during a parliamentary sitting when the Speaker formally acknowledged Muthoni’s presence and role in the National Assembly.

While addressing the lawmakers, Wetang’ula jokingly told the MPs not to be distracted by her well-known environmental activism.

“Truphena only hugs trees,” the Speaker said humorously, before adding, “Members, do not lose focus.”

The comment triggered laughter across the chamber, with several MPs appearing amused by the remark.

The light moment briefly broke the usual seriousness that often characterizes parliamentary debates.
