Political Storm Brews at Orange House as Joho Issues Stern Warning Amid Succession Wars If Left Out

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is staring at one of its most dramatic internal confrontations yet,

After former Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho reportedly issued a stern warning: edge me out, and I will dismantle the party.

What is now being described as ODM’s “Tower of Babel moment” stems from a rapidly escalating turf war within the party’s top ranks.

As senior figures jostle for control ahead of the 2027 General Election and the anticipated political realignment around Raila Odinga’s succession.

According to insiders, Joho long considered one of ODM’s most loyal and well-funded backers has grown increasingly frustrated.

With what he perceives as covert schemes to sideline him in favour of emerging power centres within the party.

Joho is said to have warned that he will not tolerate “political betrayal disguised as reorganization,”

Insisting that those plotting against him underestimate both his grassroots influence and his financial investment in ODM over the years.

“If they think they can push me out, let them try. The party they will be left with will not be the party they know,” Joho reportedly told close allies.

The tension comes at a time when ODM is undergoing significant internal restructuring, with new leadership appointments .

Including Oburu Odinga’s elevation as party leader already stirring debate about generational change and regional balance.

Joho’s latest outburst signals that the party’s top hierarchy may soon face open rebellion if grievances are not contained.

Analysts warn that ODM risks fragmenting into competing blocs:

The Coast Wing, led by Joho and seen as pivotal in fundraising and regional mobilization.

The Nyanza Bloc, still the party’s backbone but increasingly divided over Raila’s succession.

The Nairobi–Western Coalition, pushing for fresh faces and modernized leadership.

With each camp defending its turf, ODM appears to be drifting into a political cacophony hence the “Tower of Babel” analogy, where unity collapses under the weight of competing ambitions.

For now, one thing is clear—ODM is entering a decisive moment.

If the leadership fails to manage Joho’s grievances, the party risks descending into a full-blown identity crisis.

Mirroring the biblical tale where one united voice is replaced by many clashing tongues.

ODM’s Tower of Babel moment has arrived. How it ends remains to be seen.
